What we are ultimately looking for from all our submissions is a meeting of Oddity and Poigniancy. One of the principal joys of this target is the inestimable number of forms it may take; there are no particular moulds we are asking our submitters to fill.
We are looking for submissions of the following:
Poetry
We are interested in seeing all varieties of poetry, short form, long form, lyrical, even those funny ones where you make it look like a picture. Please send all poetry submissions to poetry@beachedwhalemagazine.com
Fiction
We would like to recieve both short fiction and flash fiction. For us short fiction is around 4,000 to 8,000 words long, and flash fiction is that which is brief enough for 'flash' to be an appropriate description (if in doubt just send it anyway). We are not interested in longer fiction or serializations. Please send all fictions submissions to fiction@beachedwhalemagazine.com
Essay
Got a well informed essay on an interesting subject? We'd like to see it! Generally we're looking for material around the 2,000 word mark and are not too fussy about the subject, the less expected the better! Please send all essay submissions to essay@beachedwhalemagazine.com
Reviews
We are interested in reviewing upcoming releases in print (digital as well as paper), sound and film. We are also live events such as plays, exhibitions, and maybe even rallies. The material must be upcoming and not already available in the form suggested for review. Please send all material for review to reveiws@beachedwhalemagazine.com
Visuals
We are interested in receiving visual material for both covers, and as stand-alones or spreads within the magazine. We are interested in artwork, photography or any other image form you may work in. Please send all visual submissions to visuals@beachedwhalemagazine.com
Unfortunately we are not presently in a position to pay our contributors, but hope that this will change in the near future. Until this situation changes we will not be making any extensive claims to copyright, merely the right to keep the material as part of the issue indefinately.
